Today, I addressed the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In my remarks, I emphasized that I represent a country with a history spanning three millennia, one of the world’s oldest civilizations, and a brave Georgian people, full of pride and dignity. Georgia possesses a unique alphabet, the world’s oldest language, and a seventeen-century-long Christian tradition. I stressed that I represent a nation that understands both the cost of war and the value of freedom and peace - a people who cherish their rich history and traditions while confronting and addressing the challenges our country faces.
At the UN General Assembly, I underscored that despite the many challenges surrounding us, we have managed to ensure the security of our people. The fundamental philosophy of the Georgian government remains the preservation of peace, and at all costs, shielding our citizens from the ravages of war.
As I noted in my speech, Georgia continues to express firm and unwavering support for the Ukrainian people. Recognizing the profound importance of peace, Georgia contributes to the transformation of the South Caucasus region, striving to turn it from a region of conflict into a space for dialogue between civilizations and economic prosperity. I welcomed President Donald Trump’s peace initiative between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as his efforts to bring an end to the bloodshed in the Russia-Ukraine war.
I highlighted Georgia’s significant role in the development of the Middle Corridor strategic route and reaffirmed our commitment to making this corridor the safest, most reliable, and most stable connection between East and West.
During my remarks at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, I stressed that Georgia’s objective is to foster constructive relations based on mutual respect and mutual benefit with major economies, including the United States, China, the European Union, and others. We remain open to dialogue and cooperation, but we also demand respect, fairness, and dignified approach. What the Georgian people will never accept is communication through ultimatums, blackmail, or intimidation.
I addressed our Abkhaz and Ossetian brothers and sisters, affirming that our cultural code remains unchanged. For us, diversity is not a problem, but a fundamental form of existence. Therefore, we will always meet our fellow citizens on the other side of the occupation line with open hearts and open hands. It is our duty, through joint efforts, to overcome artificially imposed obstacles, rebuild broken bridges, and consign past grievances to history, as a people distinguished by patience and resilience.
In conclusion, I reaffirmed that Georgia is ready and open, in line with its national interests, to engage in dialogue on issues of global and regional significance with all parties.
At its 79th session, the #UNGA has adopted the resolution on the Status of IDPs and Refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia and the Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia, Georgia - this time with 107 votes in favor. The resolution affirms the dignified and safe return of IDPs and addresses the difficult humanitarian situation on the ground. Deep gratitude to the international community for their unwavering support.

I reaffirmed my government’s commitment to European integration and emphasized the importance of partner support and a fair approach in this process. We also addressed recent developments in Georgia, and I reiterated our readiness for open and sincere dialogue.

Georgia has a great potential to ensure safe flow of goods and services across the continents as it remains a safe and economically stable democracy in the region.
