Panel 3: Performing Protest is coming up now with our first paper 'Re-framing the Power: A New Methodological Approach to the Study of Theatrical Protest Tactics' by Goran Duric from the @UniMelb#IFTR2021
.@larkspur20 discussing how reclaiming public spaces is central to re-framing British historical narrative in her paper: Breaking the Silence: The British Slave Trade in Performance #IFTR2021
Our 2nd session Performance in Public Places: Decolonising Space starting now with Deniz Basar & Art Babayants of @Concordia with their paper: Destabilizing the Colonial Space, Ethics and Aesthetics: The Dramaturgy & Labour of Creating Theatre as a Counterpublic Sphere #IFTR2021
Daphna is noting Balme's interrelated Civic Spheres, and notes that the protest space is often an antagonistic space and the aesthetics of the Balfour protests draws from other global moments of unrest. #IFTR2021
Our first session on Community Ecologies is now starting!
Our first panelist Rebecca Free is joining us from @gouchercollege (where it is currently 4am!) for her paper: “Ephemeral Gardens: Sustaining Culture and Problems of Envisioning in Public-Space Performance” #IFTR2021
Daphna acknowledges how elements of aesthetic performance are becoming a recognisable part of global political protests. She also acknowledges how protests can gain their own autonomy that can direct the movement - "the autonomous self production in the re-arrangement of space".
