THANK YOU to all of our new followers and those who have messaged the page! We have received an outpouring of support in our DMs from coaches, parents, and players. It’s clear those directly involved with the game are ready for change, and we hope the Union is listening!
@Crestonhoops Plus, they are still sitting that high on Bound despite how they finished their seasons. They were each much higher at end of regular season.
@Crestonhoops Union’s Top 8 (which considers Bound) is separated and those 2 were gift wrapped a region together that ultimately ended in a landslide victory at State. Would never have happened with BCM consideration.
@Crestonhoops BCM isn’t perfect. We aren’t proposing that only BCM is used; it’s still a computer, not a human. BCM is just clearly much more accurate.
Ex: in 3A, PCM and Mediapolis topped the Bound rankings all year when they were much lower on BCM… and we all saw how that worked out…
@proesler Part 2: results end up becoming irrelevant which is disappointing. 5A field was pretty close to BCMoore’s Top 8 last year outside of a RF upset.
5A is much easier for them too though because of how many of the 40 teams are just uncompetitive… a lot less for them to sort through
@proesler This was an Opinion post shared earlier detailing a bit of it. It is clear they care about 5A a little more than the others since travel seems to be nearly irrelevant.
One major change that should happen is re-seeding/ranking prior to the State Tournament; the Regional (cont)
@Quinn_Douglas_ Thanks Quinn! Sometimes it just takes someone to start the conversation that leads toward change. Since starting this page, it’s been clear a lot of people feel this way.
@PrepDigChris I’m sure Iowa’s process is better than a lot of other states. That doesn’t mean they should settle and avoid putting in the effort to improve it!
@Crestonhoops According to the BCMoore Handbook section posted here, non-competitive games hold less weight. It actually looks like Bound Power Index cares more about that
@CoachBrindle This would be a great solution, it’s great that the Boys side has adapted. If the Union can’t come to a similar conclusion, then it’d be nice to see the IGCA step up; there are already district coaches managing voting for all-district teams, I’m sure they’d love to take this on.
@LakerIowa There is definitely a gap in talent between your top teams and that next tier. The regional final issue is partly because of that, and partly because of the pairings being plain lazy in a lot of cases
This month, the IGBBFN will also release Opinion pieces regarding how the Union completes rankings and pairings, and a reflection on which teams may have deserved better this past season.
Ahead of next week’s opinion piece… Do you think the Union should consider the Bound Power Index or BCMoore when completing weekly rankings and regional pairings?
Next week, the IGBBFN will post an opinion piece taking a critical look at how the Union handles rankings and pairings, as well as giving suggestions on how to fix it. . . A lot of this is based on comments we’ve received from real coaches and parents. It’s time to make changes!
@LakerIowa Actually disagree with this point. There’s already a pretty large size disparity in several classes. 4 classes makes that even worse. 5 is fun.
If you’ve read the Opinion piece on eliminating the Regional Quarterfinal round, vote below! Would you like to see the Regional Quarterfinal round eliminated?
