Today was group threes last day in the field! We spent the morning visiting Ellie’s sites setting up the GNSS and taking samples. We made it back for hot lunch and the rest of the day were packing for the big drive tomorrow back to Fairbanks.
Eighth day in the field! Today we visited Thaw Pit 6 today. Last thaw out of our trip! We also took out one of Ellie’s sensors and set up the GNSS. Last day in the field tomorrow and then on Saturday we head back to Fairbanks.
Photos from before and after our big field day yesterday. We visited three sites- TP 13, TP11, EP8 and walked over 10 miles in the tundra to get to them! We worked really hard today but we’re not done yet.
Fifth day in the field!! We visited Elliptical pool 12 and visited all of her sites. We ended up getting two of her sensors out! Overall productive day!
We also had the chance to visit a weir today where another researcher from Toolik showed us the components of everything. It was really cool to see another researchers project and we learned a lot!
Today group 3 had a mandatory day off because of the Dalton Highway all-day closure preventing us from visiting our sites. We took advantage of this by going on a group hike to the Molar and the views were absolutely breathtaking!
Good morning! Group 3 will tackle two pools today, Elliptical pool 12 and 13! Currently eating this yummy Toolik breakfast before the long day. Hi Colin, we miss you!
2nd day out in the field! Today we looked at TP14. Had some trouble finding points in the tundra but we worked on it and have a better plan for tomorrow. We then went to Ellie’s sites so she could take samples and start planning taking out the sensors.
Today we went over what if scenarios and did more total station practice. We spent the rest of the afternoon doing data analysis by plotting the active and permafrost layers based on the total station data groups 1 and 2 collected.
Productive quarantine day! This morning we did a mock run through of our science measurement plan and the afternoon was spent analyzing total station data.
