I've been calling the United States a constitutional republic since I learned about it in grade school, long before I was old enough to vote. And when I did register to vote, I registered independent. And in all that time, l've continued to call our government exactly what it is, a constitutional republic. It has nothing to do with political parties, it's simply a fact.
