Last week the IIJ co-directed a Battlefield Forensics workshop in 🇩🇰, funded by the @NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme and hosted by Danish Defence.

It examined integrating battlefield forensics and technical exploitation to counter hybrid threats, improve intelligence and legal coordination, and support rights-based responses, including identification, cultural heritage protection, and war crimes documentation.

This week, the IIJ launched the fifth edition of the online Trial Judges Counter-Terrorism Academic Curriculum (TJ CTAC), bringing together senior trial judges from across West and Central Africa.

Supported by 🇩🇪, the programme brings together practitioners from 🇧🇯, 🇨🇫, 🇹🇩, 🇨🇮, 🇨🇩, 🇬🇳, 🇲🇷, 🇸🇳, & 🇹🇬.

Designed and delivered by the IIJ with the support of external experts, the curriculum strengthens judicial capacity to effectively adjudicate terrorism cases while upholding the rule of law and human rights.

📢 Save the Date | Hedayah International Research Conference 2026 (RC26)

Hedayah is pleased to announce that the International Research Conference 2026 (RC26) will take place from 26 to 28 October 2026 in Valletta, Malta.

Hosted by Hedayah in partnership with @iijmalta, RC26 will convene policymakers, practitioners, and researchers from around the world to explore the latest research, evidence, and emerging approaches to countering extremism and violent extremism.

Through cross-disciplinary dialogue and knowledge exchange, the conference will provide a platform to connect research with practice, strengthen partnerships, and advance innovative solutions to evolving challenges.

Commenting on the significance of the workshop, H.E. Ahmed Al Qasimi, Executive Director of Hedayah, highlighted the importance of collaborative approaches to addressing evolving online threats:

This workshop forms part of the broader European Union-funded PRR Program in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan - a consortium initiative implemented by Hedayah, @theGCERF, and @iijmalta.

By bringing together government institutions, international experts, and trusted partners, this initiative continues to support practical, locally driven approaches that strengthen prevention, digital resilience, and long-term national capacity.

The CT PHARE Team held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Ondrej Simek, Deputy Ambassador of the EU 🇪🇺Delegation to Kenya outlining the work of the IIJ across East Africa, including CT PHARE and the Women in Counter-Terrorism Initiative.  The discussion highlighted the EU and the IIJ CT PHARE committed support for strengthening engagement on counter-terrorism oversight in Africa through the implementation of @theGCTF Brussels Memorandum . 1/2

During the IIJ CT PHARE’s Awareness Raising Activity in Nairobi, the IIJ CT PHARE Project Lead, Mr. Paul Madden, met with Ms. Siobhan Kerr, First Secretary at the High Commission of 🇨🇦 to 🇰🇪. It was an opportunity to share the work of the IIJ across East Africa as well as details on the current activity taking place this week, and a further planned activity for Nairobi later this year in October. Today, the IIJ launched the Initiative to Strengthen Women's Participation and Leadership in Counter-Terrorism, supported by the 🇪🇺 European Commission's Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI). The opening brought together experts and practitioners and featured remarks by Mr. Alessandro Coassin, (TBC), Programme Manager at the EU FPI, and Mr. Paul Madden, Project Lead at the IIJ. 1/3

Participants took part in a regional working group discussions - covering the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), East and West Africa, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia - to explore regional priorities, common challenges, and opportunities for strengthening women's participation and leadership. Key findings from these discussions will help inform a preliminary set of recommendations for a future @theGCTF framework document on the topic.  2/3

From mutual legal assistance to cross-border evidence sharing, @Eurojust and @INTERPOL_HQ bring their operational expertise to the table alongside prosecutors from Spain 🇪🇸, Italy 🇮🇹, Czech Republic 🇨🇿. 📍Supporting Tajikistan in strengthening its approaches to countering terrorism, specifically related to the prosecution, rehabilitation, and reintegration of returnees from Iraq and Northeast Syria, the #EuropeanUnion 🇪🇺 funded an Operational Dialogue for senior criminal justice practitioners from Tajikistan and key international counterparts focused on strengthening judicial cooperation in terrorism-related cases involving Tajik nationals. 1/4

Tajikistan increasingly handles terrorism cases involving nationals detained or prosecuted abroad, yet effective cooperation channels remain underused. The Dialogue directly addresses this need by bringing together senior criminal justice practitioners from Tajikistan, European jurisdictions, key international and regional organisations, including @OSCEDushanbe and @UNRCCA, and PRR consortium partners @Hedayah_CVE and @theGCERF. 3/4
