He said they are currently counting the number of Burkinabè students who are studying overseas. Out of 1000 students in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦, over 800 of them left the country without the government knowing.

Our embassy over there has no record of them. And guess what those 800 people are studying? Charia law and Islamic laws and none of them is learning a trade.

So, he asked: where are they intending to apply those laws? In Burkina Faso 🇧🇫? Not here. Captain said he is going to bring them back home, and if they refuse, then they are no longer Burkinabè.

What I like most about this development is that the man making this decision, Ibrahim Traoré, is a Muslim. Picture the late Muhammadu Buhari making the same decision in Nigeria. Yeah. I’m trying to imagine that, and that's exactly what makes this news so interesting to me.

If Traoré weren't a Muslim himself, he would have instantly been accused of Islamophobia.

Also, interesting to see many Christians celebrate this because it targets Sharia. Hmmm. I just hope they maintain that same energy when Christianity faces similar scrutiny, because a common behavior I have observed among African adherents of these borrowed religions is that they only seem to recognize the irrationality of religious dogma when it applies to someone else's faith. When it comes to their own religion, they will lose that sense of responsibility.

By and large, this is a welcome development. 🇧🇫 👍👍👍
