As we recognize Youth Violence Prevention Week, we reflect on the remarkable achievements in our mission to combat violence in Illinois. Through the Reimagine Public Safety Act (RPSA), the Office of Firearm Violence Protection awarded over 160 grants to community-based organizations in the State in 2023. These investments are part of the reason that seven of the ten community areas in Illinois with the highest rates of violence experienced declines in firearm victimization last year.
Let's build on this momentum as we strive to build even safer communities. Please join us in the vital work to ensure that every young person in Illinois has the opportunity to thrive in a safe and supportive environment.
Special thanks to our friends at @femaregion5 and @fema National Exercise Division for bringing Senior Leaders together this week for a tabletop exercise that allows us to consider multiple scenarios and talk through response capabilities.
