High freight costs? Inefficient workflows? Before you rush into a massive network redesign, make sure you're diagnosing the right problem. Many organizations fail to extract meaningful value from their logistics because they confuse macro strategy with micro execution. In our latest guest editorial, Alan Miller, President of @TransportGistic introduces a modern framework to help supply chain leaders look at both layers independently, yet execute them cohesively.

What are companies getting wrong in their digital transformation journeys—and how is warehouse automation evolving to fix it? At #MODEX2026, we spoke with Patrick Maley of @Softeon about the biggest pain points customers are facing today, how Warehouse Execution Systems (WES) are adapting to manage increasingly complex automation environments, and which advanced supply chain technologies would have seemed impossible just a few years ago.
He also discusses what the IFS + Softeon merger means for customers moving forward.

A 1,000-page surface transportation bill dropped last week. The BUILD America 250 Act has to clear Congress before Sept. 30, and the headline numbers are big.
Here's a breakdown:
𝟭,𝟬𝟬𝟬+ pages in the bill
$𝟱𝟬𝗕+ earmarked for bridges, marking the the largest bridge investment in U.S. history
𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 federal framework for autonomous trucks
𝟭𝘀𝘁 new funding mechanism for the Highway Trust Fund in 30+ years (an annual fee on EVs and plug-in hybrids)
$𝟳𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 — what a broker has to post in surety bond today. A motor carrier? $750,000 in liability coverage minimum. Section 5006 moves to close that gap with enforced broker qualification rules.
𝟮 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 for DOT to finalize broker experience and qualification requirements with a Congressional check-in every 6 months until it's done
𝟭𝟵𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬+ drivers sitting in prohibited status in the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse as of mid-2025. Hair testing, also in the bill, could move that number higher.
𝟭𝟰𝘅 — how many more drivers failed a hair test vs. a urine test in a University of Central Arkansas study of 151,000+ applicants. Urine alone isn't telling the whole story.
What's on your radar from this one? Sept. 30 is closer than it seems.

🌡️In temperature-controlled freight, small details can cause major problems:
• A trailer door that doesn’t seal properly.
• A missed reefer check.
• The wrong insurance coverage.
• One communication gap in transit.
Any one of these misses can put an entire load at risk.
In this guest editorial, Jill Dalton of @Trin_Logistics does a great job highlighting these hidden risks and explaining what supply chain teams know well: cold chain success depends on discipline, consistency, and relationships.

What if robots could do all the heavy lifting for you? Two humanoid robots made headlines this week for doing just that.
@BostonDynamics' Atlas handled a 50-pound refrigerator, lifting it and walking with it in a load-bearing demo. The robot's physical capability is a meaningful data point for anyone tracking where this hardware is headed.
@Figure_robot AI's F.03 humanoids sorted packages at the company's San Jose facility for more than 80 hours without teleoperation or human intervention, processing over 100,000 packages in that time frame. Livestream viewers named the robots Bob, Frank, and Gary.
These are demos, not warehouse deployments. Robots still have limitations in real-world environments, including accuracy issues and speed constraints. But humanoid companies are increasingly making their cases through data rather than lip service.
In other robot news: @LocusRobotics acquired Vancouver-based @NexeraRobotics this week, bringing Nexera's NeuraGrasp grasping technology into its Locus Array fulfillment platform. Picking has always been a pain point in warehouse automation because inventory doesn't arrive in uniform shapes, weights, or packaging. Nexera has spent five years and six hardware generations working on that problem.
💡 When do you think humanoid robots will be ready for full warehouse integration?

This week, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that freight brokers can be sued in state court for negligent carrier selection, settling a circuit split that the brokerage industry had been watching for years.
The case (Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II) centered on a 2017 crash in which Shawn Montgomery, a truck driver stopped on the side of the road, was struck by a Caribe Transport vehicle. Montgomery lost a leg. The question before the Court was whether the Federal Aviation Administration Authorization Act's preemption clause shielded the broker that hired Caribe from state tort claims. The answer, written by Justice Amy Coney Barrett and joined by all eight other justices, was no.
The ruling hinges on the FAAAA's safety exception and its phrase "with respect to motor vehicles." Barrett's opinion found that a negligent hiring claim against a broker qualifies as a claim "with respect to" the trucks transporting those goods.
For brokers, carrier vetting decisions and compliance histories are now fair game in state court litigation.
How do you think this ruling will impact the industry? #SupplyChain #FreightBroker #3PL
