Today we honor a Chicago legend and a dear personal friend. Howard lived with a kind of warmth, generosity, and faith that left a mark on everyone he met. He was the heart of small business in this city and devoted to his family above all else. Rest in peace. #HowardFrumWay

Our office championed legislation for Illinois to become the first state in the nation to ban book bans because everyone deserves the freedom to discover new ideas, explore different perspectives, and access the resources that help them learn and grow. #FreedomToRead

[Secretary Alexi Giannoulias @ILSecOfState]

It’s banned books week, and in Illinois, the right to read is law. Illinois became the first state in the nation to outlaw book bans. Censorship doesn’t protect readers, it silences authors, erases stories, and takes the choice away to decide what they read, think and learn.

The DMV is coming to you! 🚗📍Since 2023, our Mobile DMV program has brought more than 60,000 transactions directly to communities across Illinois through 1,700+ events — making it easier and more convenient to get essential DMV services close to home.

[Secretary Alexi Giannoulias @ILSecOfState]

Our office led the charge to protect Illinoisans’ fundamental Right to Read, making Illinois the first state to protect libraries and librarians from book bans. This Banned Books Week, let’s celebrate – and exercise – our right to read! 📚

[Secretary Alexi Giannoulias @ILSecOfState]

We joined young readers at @ymcachicago to celebrate the joy of reading and help put 8,000+ books into the hands of kids across the state of Illinois. When we invest in literacy, we invest in opportunity. 📚 @berniesbookbank @bookumapp @dollyslibrary
