@TopMontagnard "...and in this essay I will explain why Star Wars is a metaphor for the fall of the studio system and rise of independent filmmaking in the 70's how the main characters act as representation of George Lucas and his friends with the character named Luke S being the self inser..."
@dennisbhooper Han chasing a the stormtroopers into a corner only to realize he was outnumbered the WHOLE time is a joke about Han's overconfidence. It's a CHARACTER joke.
But when theres now a hundred stormtroopers, suddenly the joke is that theres now a hundred stormtrooper.
@dennisbhooper Through dialogue know that Tattooine is a backwater planet that no one cares about and thats why the criminals hide out there, which is why it feels jarring when Mos Eiesly is now this massive sprawling spaceport.
@HWBryantFic@jbillinson Exactly! I donβt think the special editions would attract nearly as much vitriol if they were treated as alternative companions as opposed to a forced default.
@GettingBucketzz@jbillinson I got the New Hope version of that when I was in middle school and it was legit eye opening and became my go to until I discovered the fan restorations.
This whole defense of them is just so weird because even as a kid the Special Edition changes stood out as out of place.
@jbillinson And the ironic part is that I was born in 2000! I grew up with the 2004 version! I think the special edition of New Hope is atrocious, but I actually prefer the 2011 version of Empire!
But even if they were ALL genuine improvements, I would still want the originals available!
@jbillinson I hate Star Wars fans because all they care about is their little stupid fucking fandom wars. Lucas vs Disney, Prequels vs Sequels, etc.
But at the end of the day this is an issue of film preservation, and I don't give a fuck if George Lucas is "embarrassed" by it or not.
