Fifth study to show prospective association between high UPF intake at baseline and T2Diabetes risk. This time in Quebec, Ca (40-69 y-old, 7y follow-up, HR 1.47; 1.07-2.03). Higher risk for the co-occurrence of high UPF and depression (HR 1.62; 1.02 -2.57)

Can’t wait to see another great presentation by @ChefDrMike at TEDx on how we can achieve better health when we eat less ultra-processed food! #UPF#CulinaryMedicine

Narrative review that applied Bradford-Hill criteria to evaluate causality in the epidemiological evidence linking UPF to obesity shows consistency, temporality, biological gradient, plausibility, coherence, and experiment. https://t.co/k5Rm0BnYM6
Great point, Ty. The fact that the intake of health-protective foods is not enough to counter the harmful effects of UPF intake was elegantly demonstrated in the recent Moli-sani cohort BMJ paper

The Almond Board also shaped the processing of all US grown almonds through their lobbying efforts (which ultimately led to the USDA’s “Almond Rule”). https://t.co/HVryJghqPh
A study found "Almonds can be incorporated into the diet to increase fiber consumption without triggering gut symptoms." & was funded by the Almond Board. We need to be very careful of unrecognized (and paid for) bias creeping into our dietary recommendations. "Caveat ficedula"
Love this philosophy! Dr. Eisenberg is spot on that the solution is building a collaborative TEAM. The grail is at the round table dressed with real, authentic FOOD!!
@TheTKCollab@IMBASFoundation
Here you will find a summary of arguments and evidence that support the use of the UPF concept to inform dietary guidelines beyond conventional food classification systems. And a contrary opinion.

2nd prospective study to show association between UPF and non-alc. fatty liver disease. Again, the association was only partially explained by UPF nutrient profile pointing out the role of the processing itself (i.e. xenobiotics and food matrix breakdown)
