When electron microscopy becomes less of a job and more of a lifestyle...
So I reverse-engineered a driver for two retired TEM hand panels and used them as a game controller. Finally, a practical use for keeping my TEM muscle memory. #FEI#blackmyth#wukong
@wesbos@khhbenny101@johnsonstickk Annealed SUS304 is almost nonmagnetic. But machining (knurling) induced cold work can cause phase transformation from non-mag austenite to a ferromagnetic phase. To be honest, the main cost here is machining labor. Faking commodity materials like SUS does not save much.
Okay, time for a DFM roast so all you engineers can see how machinists think. @emm0sh volunteered this part, I don't have the time to do a full write up so I'm just gonna live tweet me going through it, exposing the sins, and optimizing it

To celebrate the holiday season, I’ve recreated the iconic Atomix crystallography toy, originally designed by François Dallegret in 1966! Probably the best toy for materials scientists. Check out the link for more details.

We couldn't agree more!
Great to see the achievements of Prof. Joanne Etheridge recognised, and importantly, recognition of the significant impact electron microscopy has in understanding materials @micro_au@Monash_MTRP
Absolutely phenomenal! Although I'm no longer an active gamer, and my 10+ yr old pc could hardly handle the graphics, I placed the order on steam so perhaps some time later I could revisit my childhood memories once I built a new system.
Black Myth: Wukong has sold 10 million copies across all platforms.

Have a great gaming weekend!

Holy shit! This is an absolute world first! An 8 bit processor formed on a glass substrate as a continuous grain!
This is genuinely amazing! This is literally the next generation of integrated circuits being developed!
@RichBean0 I super glue the Si wafer to the specimen, so pretty robust. The ECP I got from Zeiss sigma is around 3-4deg range at the lowest mag at 20kV. Perhaps the ECP you have also works but would be better to try higher voltage with narrower band and wider range?
Super excited to announce the official release of openECCI, our very first open source Python library for Electron Channelling Contrast Imaging (ECCI) analysis of crystal defects in Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Check our Github page for more info
