Elon Musk has become the world’s first trillionaire – at least on paper – after launching SpaceX as a publicly traded company.
The rocket and AI firm’s initial public offering (IPO) was listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange with a valuation of $1.77tn - although some analysts have warned it is dangerously overvalued.
SpaceX was founded in 2002 as a rocket manufacturer but Musk has since folded in several of his other businesses, including satellite and internet provider Starlink, social media platform X and his artificial intelligence company xAI.
While the company generated revenues of $18.7bn, the firm posted a net loss of nearly £4.28bn last year on the back of heavy capital spending on its AI infrastructure.
Musk already held the title of world’s richest man, with his net worth before the IPO estimated at $696bn, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index.
The SpaceX founder and CEO is the company’s biggest shareholder with around 40% of its equity capital and approximately 80% of the voting rights.
At the IPO price of $135 per share, his combined shares and options are valued at roughly $866bn - meaning he was likely to pass the $1tn mark even if the share price fell after opening.
Having a trillion dollars is the equivalent of receiving $56,345 per hour since the birth of Christ.
A new Oxfam analysis reveals Musk is now richer than the poorest 46% of the world population, or 3.8 billion people, combined.
“Musk’s wealth grew by over $550bn over the past year, equivalent to an average rate of over $1m per minute,” the charity said.
Nabil Ahmed, senior director of economic justice at Oxfam America, said: “A trillion dollars in the hands of one man is incompatible not only with an affordable economy, but also with a healthy democracy.
“Economic inequality begets political inequality, and ordinary people bear the brunt while billionaires continue to write the rules for their own benefit.”
Elon Musk being the first trillionaire is a symptom of capitalism. The motor of capitalism is capital accumulation through workers' alienated labor. The accumulation of capital in the top 1% proportional to accumulation of misery among workers.

Here Marx is talking about the general value-form. His point is that the value of any random commodity (e.g. linen) can be expressed in terms of other commodities. All commodities are commensurable with one another in terms of value (abstract labor).

For us what constitutes Marx's humanism isn't essentialism or liberalism, but his view that our self-activity (e.g. labor) is the source of our self-creation. By transforming the world of social relations which compose us, we transform ourselves.
Marx says we're an ensemble of social relations. Under capitalism, our social relation takes on the dehumanized form of relation between things because our self-activity is abstract labor. Changing the world entails abolishing the dehumanized relations for new human relations.
The new human relation which is to be made out of dehumanized relation is free association of human activities. It's through our freely associated activities that we generate new powers and passions. It's through generating new powers and passions that we make ourselves.

The claim that Vol III “destroyed” Vol I is not a critique of Marx. It is a confession that the critic has not understood the object of Marx’s theory. Marx never said individual market prices equal individual labour-values. He explicitly denied that. Here we go again… 🧵
But once class relations is abolished, the collective political rule of the working class withers away since there is no more working *class* (and any class) who rules anymore.
The state is the bureaucratic personification of class relations. As such, it appears as an alien power reinforcing class relations. Overcoming class relations requires workers as a whole to smash the state for their collective political power to abolish class antagonism.
As long as class antagonism exists, political power of a class will exist. The political power of a class either exists as a bureaucratic state which reinforce class relations or it is the collective rule of workers who use their coercive power to abolish class relations.
