After more than a year of planning and collaboration, pre-hospital blood transfusion is now a reality in Des Moines and West Des Moines! Great support from @IMMC_Trauma with this collaborative effort.
Another great day teaching ATLS. All of our participants work here in Iowa. We are helping the system to grow and love being a part of it. @acsTrauma@pelaez_trauma
It’s National Rural Health Day! 🚜🏥 Dr. Rick Sidwell jumped on his 1948 John Deere and journeyed to the Iowa State Capitol to meet with @AdamGreggIA to discuss ways to shorten the time it takes to get rural Iowans who suffer from a traumatic injury to a hospital. @IMMC_Trauma
Stop by our booth in the @FarmBureau park at the State Fair today until 3:30. You’ll learn about our injury prevention efforts and how to Stop the Bleed. We will also be here Tuesday and Thursday next week from 0930-3:30. Come learn how to save a life!!
Come on down to the Valley West mall and come donate for Blood Donor Day with @LifeServeBldCtr. It is a great day to get out and save some lives. They are here until 7pm. It’s your blood going to your neighbors #givemorebirthdays
Huge shoutout to @ccprideiowa for allowing us to come out and teach them Stop the Bleed earlier this week. Hope everyone has a safe and fun weekend! @LukeStalzer @BethFuchsen@AndrewTRAUma
It’s been a pretty busy week. Not only on our trauma service but for our Doctors. Our very own Dr Pelaez (@pelaez_trauma) received the Partner of Nursing award this week. It is truly well deserved. He truly lives as a partner of Nurses
He has arrived! Dr. Rick Sidwell began his journey 20 miles away. He rode his 1950’s John Deere tractor to Story County Medical Center, a level 4 trauma center, to get a glimpse at rural trauma #ruraltraumamatters#PowerOfRural@rsidwell
Today is National Rural Health Day. Some of our Trauma team members will be traveling to Story County Medical Center. We are shining a light on rural trauma care and how to improve our trauma system #ruraltraumamatters#powerofrural
Launched in 2011, National Rural Health Day was an idea that was developed to formally recognize those who work & contribute to making a positive impact on healthcare needs of the people living, working, & easing their families in rural America #ruraltraumamatters#powerofrural
19% of the US population (37.5% of Iowans) live in rural locations but 54% of all traffic deaths occur in these areas. How many adult Level 1, 2, 3, & 4 trauma centers does the state of Iowa have? #ruraltraumamatters#powerofrural
One thing that is being done to help rural facilities is the Rural Trauma Team Development Course. It’s an interactive class that helps to teach more rural facilities on how to care for a trauma patient, work as a team, and transfer if needed #ruraltraumamatters#powerofrural
