The Port of Lamu has welcomed MV Great Glory, a vessel carrying the second batch of heavy project cargo destined for the Dangote East Africa Refinery.
The shipment of the 154 assorted heavy machinery equipment to Lamu, is another concrete step in the physical mobilisation of the project that will reshape Kenya's energy landscape and anchor the country's northern region as an industrial hub.
This follows an earlier delivery in late September, when the MV Da Yang docked at the port with nearly 3,000 metric tonnes of construction equipment for the refinery.
The Dangote East Africa refinery, valued at approximately Sh2.2 trillion, is designed to process up to 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day, making it the largest refining complex in East Africa once completed. It will produce petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel for Kenya and the region.

The Port of Mombasa has received delivery of massive onshore drilling equipment for oil production in Lockchar in Turkana County, reaffirming the port's status as the gateway for energy and infrastructure investment in the region.
The 2,152-metric-tonne consignment came aboard the MV Transit Sedanka, on Saturday having sailed from Abu Dhabi via Duqm.
Among the heavy equipment being discharged are the GW70 Integrated Onshore Drilling Rig 1,500-horsepower unit worth over Ksh 2 billion, roughly USD 15 million.
The basin holds an estimated 326 million barrels of recoverable oil. The project aims to be fully operational by December.
The investments, totalling about USD 6.1 billion, expected to run over 25 years, stand out as one of Kenyaβs most significant energy undertakings
The arrival of the specialised cargo highlights the Port of Mombasa's growing role in facilitating strategic national projects through the efficient handling of oversized and complex project cargo.
Once discharged and cleared, the equipment will be transported to Turkana County as part of the broader logistics chain supporting the development of Kenya's petroleum infrastructure.
The milestone is expected to provide fresh momentum to the country's oil development agenda while reaffirming the Port of Mombasa's position as a key gateway for investments in the energy, infrastructure and extractive sectors.

The Port of Mombasa has welcomed MV REN JIAN 15, a Panamax container vessel carrying a total of 3,710 containers destined for both the local and transit markets.
The vessel, measuring 260 metres in overall length and 32 metres in beam, successfully docked at Berth 22, where it is expected to discharge 1,610 containers and load 400 full containers and 1,700 empty containers.
Sailing under the Chinese flag, MV REN JIAN 15 is among the vessels calling at the Port of Mombasa to support the movement of containerised cargo serving Kenya and the wider East African hinterland.
MV REN JIAN 15 in its distinctive curve forms part of the vesselβs hydrodynamic hull design, engineered to allow the bow to enter and displace water progressively as the ship moves forward.
This design helps reduce resistance as the vessel navigates through the sea.

The Global Logistics Convention opened in Juba, South Sudan this week, bringing together shipping and maritime stakeholders to push forward discussions on logistics management and trade facilitation across Africa.
Under the theme βTransport and Logistics as a catalyst for Africaβs Integrated and Sustainable Economic Growth,β industry leaders, port operators, policymakers, freight forwarders, and transport operators from across the continent are gathering to exchange knowledge, discuss emerging trends and share critical insights on the industry.
The sector holds vast potential but remains fragmented, and delegates aim to chart a path toward greater integration and long-term viability for sustainable growth.
Kenya Ports Authority, a key player in the logistics sector, is also taking part in the conference. Its delegation is sharing insights on the strategic direction and policy frameworks shaping the regionβs ports industry.
Beyond the main sessions, the KPA team is also meeting and engaging with South Sudanese customers. These engagements are meant to identify the unique needs of the stakeholder segment with the aim of improving service delivery and customer satisfaction.
South Sudan remains a key transit market for the Port of Mombasa. In 2025, it ranked as the portβs third-largest transit customer, accounting for about 10 percent of total transit cargo and highlighting its strategic importance.
Now in its seventh year, the Global Logistics Convention is an annual freight logistics gathering. It examines emerging trends, operational best practices, and new technologies in transport and supply chain management, while also creating room for networking among industry players.
