No one left to speak their names.
No one left to remember their laughter,
their dreams and their love.

Today, we remember them.
We mourn them.
We speak for them.
We carry them in every heartbeat of survival.

My name is Naike.
I am 15 years old.
I have written this poem to tell my story, and that of so many others, the second generation of genocide survivors.

I tell my story to inform you, to tell the world that we survived the unthinkable, to teach and remind you of the consequences of the Genocide against the Tutsi, and its horror.

I tell my story with the hope that this will never happen again.

Dear survivors,
Dear parents,
Dear Rwandans,

If there’s one thing you can keep from my message, it’s that my generation and I, we have learnt, and we are proud of who we are: Rwandans, who will always hold your hand.
We will strive for the everlasting peace, prosperity, and hope of life in Rwanda.

We will always remember what happened during the Genocide against the Tutsi.
We’re going to write.
We’re going to remember.
We’re going to make changes.
