First charge of the day after driving 145km (having started with a 400km range) from Durban comes via the Mooi River Engen 1 Stop. It's just above the Mooi toll gate. Owned by GridCars, it's not the fastest charger out there. The Volvo EX90 is only taking 32kW of charge at most. Works fine for topping up.
Volvo EX90 comes fitted with live Google Maps and a quick search button that seeks out charging stations. SASOL charger (Audi-branded, Rubicon-run) and CHARGE came up. Both are located within 1.5km of each other on either side of the N3 south, about 200km from Joburg.
Audi charger is quite slow, running at around 50kW for the most part. CHARGE meanwhile, claimed theirs - plugged into solar panels - is capable of 350kW charging. But CHARGE only works with their proprietary app that one has to download and then register with. So the Volvo charging card was rendered useless there. It worked very well at SASOL though.
Took the long 600km road trip from Gauteng to Durban. Chosen steed? Volvo's EX90 (380kW, 910Nm, 7 seats, R2.6 million), which arrived with just over 17 000km on the clock. Volvo claims up to 720km, but the car itself hasn't reflected anything past 420km. Chargers along the N3 would be key to anxiety-free driving and the first thing would be to search for them.
Volvo EX90. Sharing a public 200kW charger with your baby boy is normal. Just know that charging power will immediately drop by about half, thus increasing the charging time.
Word on the street is that Alfa Romeo is working on a new hatch to replace the Giulietta. It may or may not be called Giulietta itself.

Chery's largest car in Mzansi right now is the Tiggo 9 range. We have this 7-seat Vanguard model (2.0-litre petrol turbo, 187kW, 390Nm, R779 900), the brand's highest petrol-only premium offering. Chery SA sells over 2 000 new cars monthly. Still, Tiggo 9 remains a rare sight. Perhaps not many customers are buying down from large luxury Germans. Not yet anyway.
Yes. There are two different Tata automotive companies operating here. One sells cars, the other sells commercial vehicles like trucks. Similar situation with Volvo Cars and Volvo Trucks.
Let's go to Cape Town to see what the new Toyota RAV4 is all about. It was the world's best-selling car in 2025, so there's a bit of pressure attached.
Chery made a business decision to separate Jetour from the rest of the group. Furthermore, Jaecoo and Omoda - while sharing some space with Chery - are treated as separate businesses in Mzansi. Another internal decision. But who knows; this might change one day.
