Today, @IOC3HQ was referenced in an RNZ report following an investigation we conducted into the Manage My Health breach in New Zealand, where our investigators helped to identify the individual responsible. https://t.co/xHp0WyvnqM
The breach involved unauthorised access to highly sensitive patient information, followed by a ransom demand and the release of sample records, one of the most serious healthcare privacy incidents in NZ.
Even over the holidays, our team is here. If you or anyone you know has been groomed, extorted, or encountered harmful content (predators, violent extremism, etc) online, reach out to us.

This week, one of our Senior OSINT & Investigations analysts Mario Khawam and our Director of Operations @AliBissoondath gave a lecture at King's College London on how cybercriminals are building their own OSINT tools, and how our team is fighting back. Using the Com as an example, this presentation showcased how threat actors choose and gather intelligence on their victims, how they initiate contact, and what their end goals are. It also explored the future of OSINT, underscoring the need for OPSEC-by-default.
Understanding these tools and techniques enables our team to proactively identify and disrupt threat actors, with our intelligence contributing to the arrest of multiple individuals.
Our team consists of trust & safety and subject-matter experts from across the globe who are trained to deal with the scenarios which we encounter :) We work closely with our partners across law enforcement, government and non-profit agencies to ensure that victims are provided with the support that they need and that the proper resources are dedicated to each individual report.
We appeared on national news this morning touching on #Roblox online safety & #BloxShield this morning;
Some key insights regarding online safety on Roblox:
1️⃣ There are major issues at play regarding safety on the platform, which have only continued to evolve over the years, particulartly noting digital extremist groups, extortion cults, and online predators being exceptionally prevalent across communities and games on the platform.
2️⃣ Roblox is not an inherently unsafe platform - I myself grew up on the platform and built my careers off of the platform itself, Roblox provides a lot of value to a younger audience, however there are issues that must be addressed by Roblox, and safety steps that parents can take to protect their kids on the Roblox platform.
3️⃣ Roblox offers a wide array of safety features to take advantage of, such as their parental controls, age verification and report abuse systems; however there still remains gaps in these systems where Roblox needs to step up their game.
4️⃣ Roblox should look for more community input into these matters, and further involve organisations like BloxShield & Netsafe New Zealand (among many other amazing organisations in the space) in making the platform a safer place, not only for children, but for all users.
5️⃣ It is crucial for parents to utilise the safety feature that Roblox and other online platforms have available, and to monitor their kids online activity (without being overbearing!) - the internet can be a dangerous place, but there are many steps that parents and kids can take to reduce the risk.
Let's make the internet a safer place together - If you have been a victim of online harm - reach out to our team at https://t.co/aG8oUKNhRf or [email protected]
