A high-level delegation led by Hon'ble Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh commenced an official visit to Israel to participate in the Second Global Summit on "Blue Food Security: Sea the Future 2026" which is being held during 13-15 January 2026 in Eilat, Israel, reinforcing India-Israel cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture sector.
The delegation today visited the National Centre for Mariculture (NCM) at Eilat which is Israel's leading research hub for marine aquaculture innovation. During the visit, Hon’ble Minister received an overview of NCM's facilities and research programs, including broodstock development, hatchery technologies, IMTA models, and innovative approaches to disease management.
Both sides also discussed opportunities for collaboration and joint research between India and Israel, aiming to strengthen knowledge exchange, enhance production efficiency and introduce advanced mariculture solutions adaptable to Indian conditions.

Can you hear when fish are hungry? 👂🐟
Our new paper shows how passive acoustics can quantify feeding intensity in real time - opening the door to smarter, more sustainable aquaculture.

Monitoring in Cyprus is in full swing! As part of the @PUREEF_Y project with @cmmicyprus and @ICTA_UAB university we conducted bassline surveys at the intertidal/subtidal zones to understand the biodiversity of Cyprus.pleasure doing it with our expert partners and more work ahead
📢🩷🦐🌊Why did the shores of Eilat, northern Red Sea, turn pink? Millions of tiny amphipods mysteriously washed ashore, sparking a scientific investigation! 🔍 Check out our new research: https://t.co/On6OnvIT5m

We used integrative #taxonomy 🔬+🧬to identify the amphipods and tested different potential root causes: reproduction, thermal stress, pathogens, and physical conditions. We also collected data from @inaturalist of similar amphipod strandings worldwide @IOLR_Israel@iui_eilat 2/3
🔍We found that these events occurred seasonally and repeatedly during March-April. Turns out, cyclonic eddies may be the culprits, trapping and stranding these crustaceans. 🌪️🌊 3/3 @inaturalist@IOLR_Israel@iui_eilat
How fast? TWICE AS FAST♨️♨️
Our annual report of the national marine monitoring project shows the Eastern Mediterranean is heating TWICE AS FAST as the IPCC reported global average!

Almost 400 researchers & students are coming to meet in #Eilat
Are you ready to the biggest marine & aquatic sciences meeting ever(!) in #israel?
Welcome our newest researchers, Dr @BialikOr🔬 His research dives deep into modern and ancient marine environmental change and is excited to share his discoveries. Stay tuned for more!

#Summer vacation is nearing the end and it's the perfect time to bring @IOLR_Israel employee kids to get their hands wet in sea and lab🌊!
We had a week full of learning what lives in the #tidal zone and its #ecology while collecting samples for #DNABarcoding
How many #fish are there in Lake #Kinneret?
Apparently it's the most popular question Dr Ilia Ostrovsky from the Kinneret Limnological Laboratory gets in every seminar he talks about his active acoustics research for stock assessment. His answer to us was-In numbers or Biomass?
Welcome to our newest researcher Dr Roy Jaijel!🔥
He is diving deep into marine sedimentology and is excited to share his discoveries. Stay tuned for more!
