🚨 Key PAN Rule Changes (Draft Income-Tax Rules, 2026 | India 🇮🇳)

🟡 1) Housing (HRA Rules)
• Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune & Ahmedabad added to metro cities list for HRA benefits

🟡 2) Cash Transactions
• PAN not required for cash deposits/withdrawals below ₹10 lakh in a financial year
• Earlier rule: PAN required for cash deposits above ₹50,000 per day

🟡 3) Hotel, Event & Lifestyle Spending
• PAN required for hotel / banquet / restaurant bills above ₹1 lakh
• Earlier threshold: ₹50,000

🟡 4) Jewellery Purchases
• PAN mandatory for jewellery purchases above ₹10 lakh

🟡 5) Motor Vehicle Purchase
• PAN required for vehicle purchases above ₹5 lakh
• Applies to cars and two-wheelers
• Earlier: PAN required for all cars, regardless of price

🟡 6) Property Transactions
• PAN required for purchase, sale, gift, or joint development of property above ₹20 lakh
• Earlier threshold: ₹10 lakh

🟡 7) Insurance Accounts
• PAN mandatory for any account-based relationship with insurance companies
• Earlier: PAN needed only if annual premium exceeded ₹50,000

🟡 8) Salary & Allowances
• Company car up to 1600cc → ₹8,000/month tax-free
• Company car above 1600cc → ₹10,000/month tax-free

🟡 9) Digital Payments
• CBDC (Digital Rupee) recognised as an electronic payment method

✔️ Less PAN compliance for small transactions
✔️ Better tracking of high-value spending
✔️ Direct impact on tax filing, property & lifestyle purchases

⚠️ These are DRAFT rules under the Income-tax Act, 2025.

Final rules expected before April 1, 2026.

IIT Madras has launched the new BS in Aeronautics and Space Technology, a flexible, skill-based undergraduate programme offered in online mode, aimed at widening access to industry-ready aerospace education.

Aligned with national priorities in aviation, UAVs and space manufacturing, the programme is designed to build strong foundations in analysis, design, industrial R&D and higher studies. Open to Class 12 pass-outs and diploma holders without IIT-JEE, it offers flexible pacing, Sunday examinations, and multiple exit options at the foundation, diploma, and BS levels under the NEP.

Learners will gain exposure to CFD, FEM, aircraft and spacecraft design, supported by recorded lectures, live tutorials, discussion forums and on-campus lab courses at IIT Madras. Internship and placement support will be provided through IIT Madras’ Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE).

Graduates will be well-positioned for careers across aerospace, defence, energy and advanced engineering sectors, as well as for GATE and advanced degrees. With fee waivers of up to 75% for eligible learners, the programme reinforces IIT Madras’ commitment to democratising access to high-quality technical education.

RECOGNITION OF LLB DEGREE

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has informed that under the earlier Rules of Legal Education, 1989, the BCI had permitted and recognized evening LL.B. courses offered by certain universities and law colleges, including institutions in Delhi and some other States, subject to compliance with the then-prevailing standards. However, with effect from the academic year 2000–2001, the Bar Council of India, through the Rules of Legal Education, 1999 referred to that time as Standards of Legal Education and Recognition of Degrees in Law (Rules), discontinued the recognition of evening law degree courses across all States.

The Bar Council of India has consistently maintained this position under its Rules of Legal Education, 2008, which mandate that LL.B. is a regular, full-time professional course requiring prescribed daily and weekly classroom hours, minimum attendance, and a fixed academic teaching window between 8.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. Accordingly, no State-wise recognition of evening, night-school, part-time, weekend, holiday, online or distance LL.B. courses exists or has existed since 2000–2001, a position reiterated by the Bar Council of India through statutory rules, circulars.

Under this model, sellers can digitally generate pickup requests, choose the Department of Posts as the logistics partner, and have parcels collected from their premises. Postage is collected at the time of pickup, and consignments are inducted, tracked, and delivered using the Department’s technology-enabled logistics systems
