This treaty marks a significant milestone in the international IP system, introducing legal recognition of Indigenous peoples’ traditional knowledge for the first time.
Australia has helped make history in recognition of First Nations’ traditional knowledge.
The Treaty on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge was concluded at the World Intellectual Property Organization diplomatic conference in Geneva.
