IP Europe champions an innovation ecosystem in which patents and open standards drive private investment in R&D-intensive technology and help deliver progress.
When the company's innovations are deemed essential to the standard, it can ask users to pay a licence fee--the proceeds of which are re-invested in the next cycle of R&D.
@ETSI_STANDARDS Chief Policy Officer Martin Chatel told participants at the EP breakfast on #IP and #Standards that ETSI wants to see more incentives for #SMEs, which already represent 25% of its members, to be “filing #patents and engaging in the standards development process.”
Unfortunately Europe has taken “some steps backwards in #IP issues,” MEP @jorgenwarborn said. “This is a geopolitical game as well as a business game. We need to make sure Europe is leading” in both, he said.
At IP & Standards breakfast supported by @EricssonEU, MEP @jorgenwarborn says the #EU needs to better understand the role of #IP rights and #standards and “step up our game” given their competitive importance.

Reasonable observers may, and do, hold different perspectives on the current functioning of the IPRED. What should be less contested, however, is the need for statistics that are clearly explained, methodologically sound, and presented with appropriate context when people use them to inform policy choices.
Out latest blog is the first in a series that aims to examine some widely quoted figures and findings from that perspective and asks whether they accurately reflect enforcement realities across Europe. It begins by looking at the claim that EU courts grant injunctions in 94% of patent cases.

What if we could use all those antennas in electronic devices not only to communicate, but also to sense the environment around them? In our latest #InnovationStartsHere Q&A, Milind Kulkarni describes just that. #technology#openstandards#6G#WiFi
Vice-president and head of the Wireless Lab at InterDigital, Inc., Milind describes how combining #WiFi and #6G antennas enables new sensing functionalities and services. In the following Q&As, he'll share his excitement for the new possibilities this creates.
#6G is both an evolution and a step change. It will build on the principles of previous generations, but also respond to new needs and applications. These may go far beyond today’s smartphones, video streaming and social media. Read how:
