Happy 142nd birthday to President Harry Truman.
Today is also the 81st anniversary of VE Day, which Harry said was the best birthday present he ever got.
Our theme this year is “The Art of Teaching”
Looking forward to using art as historical sources as well as refining our own teaching craft. Here we used art to explore what makes learning feel authentic.
As a teacher, I play many roles. Today, I channeled my inner @nflcommish as the commissioner of not the #NFL, but the P(aper)FL. My Ss learned the difference between autocracy and democracy today when I switched up the rules of play without allowing them to vote on the changes.
During the second week of school, we started fostering some future social studies teachers here at Nowlin. Very impressed with this group of 8th graders! #FalconsSOAR@NowlinMiddle
Today students used artifacts to draw conclusions about me! A fun way to introduce myself and practice using historical thinking skills 🔍

A terrible crime has occurred and the Orange Team is on the case! We are charging our historical thinking batteries today to solve a bank robbery. Lots of student collaboration today. @JBMSHerd@ISDSchools@ISDSocStudies
Mayor Rory Rowland visited Bingham Middle School to hear student presentations on clean energy solutions! Our students are innovators and thinkers 💡 #ISDstrong
Thank you Mayor @RoryRowland for stopping by to visit with Social Studies students in Mr. Griffith’s class!
Students enjoyed pitching their ideas about renewable energy sources for our community. #isdstrong
7th graders at Bingham had the opportunity to present their learning and ideas about renewable energy to Independence Mayor Rowland today. Students did an excellent job presenting facts relevant to our state and city as well as addressing pros and cons of their proposal!
Chrisman and Van Horn APUSH students closed out the year with visits to @TheWHDC to explore a simulation on Truman’s decisions in relation to Korea. We are so thankful for the Truman Library’s partnership and these opportunities for our students!
