वर्ल्ड डायरेक्टरी ऑफ मॉडर्न मिलिट्री एयरक्राफ्ट की 2026 रैंकिंग में भारतीय वायुसेना ने लगातार तीसरा स्थान बनाए रखा है। भारतीय वायुसेना एक बार फिर चीन की वायुसेना से आगे रही है। इस आकलन में केवल विमानों की संख्या नहीं, बल्कि बेड़े की संरचना, तकनीकी क्षमता, आधुनिकीकरण, लॉजिस्टिक समर्थन और परिचालन दक्षता जैसे कई मानकों को शामिल किया गया। रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, भारतीय वायुसेना के पास लड़ाकू, परिवहन, हेलीकॉप्टर, प्रशिक्षण और विशेष मिशन वाले विमानों का संतुलित बेड़ा है।

रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, भारतीय वायुसेना के पास इस समय कुल 1,716 विमान हैं। इनमें सात प्रकार के 542 लड़ाकू विमान शामिल हैं। इस आंकड़े में सितंबर 2025 में सेवा से हटाए जा चुके मिग-21 विमानों को भी शामिल किया गया है। वायुसेना के बेड़े में 498 हेलीकॉप्टर भी हैं। इनमें 222 एमआई-17 हेलीकॉप्टर और स्वदेशी एचएएल ध्रुव तथा रुद्र के 111 प्लेटफॉर्म शामिल हैं। इसके अलावा भारतीय वायुसेना के पास 282 परिवहन विमान और 374 प्रशिक्षण विमान हैं। इनमें 325 विमान केवल प्रशिक्षण के लिए इस्तेमाल किए जाते हैं।
