In my experiments with AI for art creation, I’ve really enjoyed using AI to create a reference to draw from. It can be powerful in helping me visualize what I’m imagining.

Is that cheating?

My challenge was drawing either a deep sea creature or a tooth fairy. I thought why not both?

It’s inspired by The Son of Man—a painting about how what we see is never the whole truth.

As an artist and designer, that idea feels more relevant than ever.
AI can now generate images, words, voices, and ideas that look complete, confident, and real… even when their origin, intent, or meaning is fuzzy at best.

The apple isn’t about hiding.
It’s about a layer in between.

More and more, we experience the world through systems that interpret, remix, and present reality back to us. They’re very good at appearances. They’re less reliable narrators.

I’m not anti-AI. I’m deeply interested in it.
But it demands better questions, sharper literacy, and a healthy respect for uncertainty.

Seeing ≠ knowing.
