A while back @CamilloBoano & I invited our @grripp friends to think collectively & submit an entry describing emotional landscapes & thinking in darker times. This Lexicon is the result of such collective engagement, which we are delighted to share: https://t.co/MqVOMPcoN3

#Calcutta's origins lay in a collection of thriving villages on the east bank of the #Hooghly River. Many of these villages used to have a #Dharmatala, where the folk deity- Dharma was worshipped. The most popular Dharmatala is the modern day Esplanade area of central #Kolkata. Although it is unclear where it's Dharma shrine originally was.
If you look at old maps of the city, you can find several other Dharmatalas. One of the most visible ones is this shrine at north Kolkata's Kashi Mitra Ghat. Here the tree, which is now painted green was worshipped as Dharma. The shrine also contains another local folk deity, the Boro Maa (the female figure in front) who is still worshipped to protect the local community from various tropical diseases.
These Dharmatalas show that there were village communities here even before the arrival of the East India Company. To the Company took several of these villages together and molded them into the city of Kolkata we know today.
Is there a Dharmatala in your neighborhood? Share a picture with us!

Hi Radix followers! I’m @MinvilleGen and I will be tweeting for Radix this week 👋. I’m a social worker and PhD student in Critical Human Geography at @YorkUniversity in Canada. I’ll be tweeting about disaster displacement throughout the week.
It’s been a mystery why Roman concrete often lasted thousands of years, but ours decays in mere decades.
Turns out they incorporated chemicals in a process that induces self-healing; scientists at MIT just figured this all out - in 2022.
Extraordinary.

Sorry @AP, you’re wrong. 3.3million people were displaced by bad policy & political decisions *NOT* by nature.
It’s the powerful decisions-makers chose to build on flood plains, in areas prone to drought/ forest fires etc.
There are #NoNaturalDisasters.
