[NEWS] 260621 Actress Chae Seo-an Reflects on Reuniting With IU… “It Felt Like Being Reborn”

Actress Chae Seo-an shared her thoughts on reuniting with IU in Perfect Crown, whom she first worked with on When Life Gives You Tangerines.

Reflecting on the past year, Chae Seo-an said, “The last year flew by in the blink of an eye. I was so focused on the characters I was responsible for that I never expected the projects to become such a hit. It was a time I was grateful for because I had the chance to be part of such wonderful productions. Working alongside such incredible senior lead actors, my only thought was that I should blend naturally into the story. I think I’ve been very fortunate with the projects I’ve been given.”

Speaking about her reunion with IU, Chae Seo-an shared, “On the last day of filming WLGYT, I wanted to get IU sunbaenim’s autograph, so I asked for one. She wrote, ‘Let’s meet properly next time.’ Three years later, we met again, and we (our characters) ended up seeing each other on a sofa once more. I was so happy, amazed, and grateful.”

She continued, “IU sunbaenim is still as warm as ever, and she still brings such positive energy to the set (of Perfect Crown). The thing I most want to emulate is the energy she uses while working. Doesn’t she have incredible energy even on stage? It’s on a completely different level from mine. During WLGYT, we talked a lot while building our scenes together. Meeting again and acting face-to-face through Perfect Crown felt really surreal. The project was different, and the era was different, but strangely enough, it felt like being reborn. We didn’t have many long conversations, but I could feel the gratitude and happiness we exchanged through our eyes.”

She added, “In Perfect Crown, there weren’t many scenes that I could lead on my own, but IU came up with many ideas to help me stand out more and carefully matched her performance with mine. The hospital room scene is the one I remember most.

Since we played family members, we filmed in a very warm and affectionate atmosphere. I think that set will stay in my memory for a long time. She also told me she would invite me to her concert.”

Recalling the cast’s first meeting, Moon So-ri said, “I was a little worried at first because I’m not very familiar with idols and don’t really have close connections with musicians. I wondered if I might feel awkward. But when I got there, our team members were all spread out on both sides, and it made me feel incredibly reassured.”

She also expressed her affection for IU, who carried much of the responsibility at the center of the production. “It must have been an enormous burden for Ji-eun as well. There was even talk about the drama’s huge production budget, so everything must have weighed heavily on her.

But whenever I saw her on set, I found myself wondering where all that energy came from. She remained steadfast and never wavered. I still vividly remember her determined and unwavering gaze.

Actor Park Hae-joon and I would always say to Ji-eun, ‘It must be tough, it must be tough,’ and worry about her like actual parents would. We constantly felt concerned about how hard she was working,” Moon So-ri said.

[NEWS] 260531 IU’s Malicious Commenter Receives Suspended Jail Sentence

The South Korean court has sentenced a netizen who repeatedly posted malicious comments about IU to four months in prison, suspended for one year, along with probation and 80 hours of community service.

The defendant was found guilty of posting insulting comments online, including calling the artist a “fraudster” and “mentally ill.” The court ruled that the remarks exceeded acceptable criticism, even for a public figure.

Judges noted the defendant showed no remorse and had repeatedly committed similar offenses. However, the court considered the defendant’s epilepsy and the deletion of the comments as mitigating factors.

The ruling is now final after no further appeal was filed.

Over the past few days, I carefully read through each and every message left by many viewers.
As the lead actress of the production, I feel very sorry for not being able to show a responsible side of myself and for seeming to have caused great disappointment to all of you, and even now my heart feels very heavy.

Regarding the various historical inaccuracy issues within the drama that many of you pointed out, I have no excuse for approaching the acting without thinking more deeply about them, and I sincerely reflect on my actions and apologize.
As this was a work where it was important to contain imagination based on our unique history and to capture the traditional beauty of the Republic of Korea, I should have read and studied the script more carefully as an actress, yet I failed to do so, and I am ashamed of myself for that.
I failed to properly recognize the issue beforehand. I am sorry.

Thank you to everyone who stayed with the work until the end and did not hesitate to share your thoughts.
Keeping the valuable criticism and opinions you have given me in my heart at all times, I will become an IU who approaches future works with greater care and thoroughness.
