Furthermore, SZABIST administration should not use scare tactics to silence genuine student concerns using their defamation policies in such trying times and instead listen to the issues students are facing and accommodate them the best they can.

Universities all around the world have tried to cater to their students’ needs during this trying time. Many higher education institutions across Pakistan have followed suit and implemented a ‘Pass/Fail’ policy to reduce the academic stress on students.

But not SZABIST.

Students should also be given at least 24 hours to take an online exam, given the various issues they are facing at home.

The mental and physical wellbeing of students should be taken into account when new policies and SOPs are made.

The BMC Act 2017 must be amended with the involvement of all stakeholders including the students and teachers; and the institution should be deprivatizated; the fee hikes be revoked; and the previously available scholarships and merit quota be reinstated. 19/n
