This is a great example of the nuances of film.
Plot wise, the scenes are the same. But visually? Completely different.
The bottom version cuts back and forth between the actors to better capture their emotions. It’s very Directing 101. The angle also has us removed from the scene, like we’re looking over someone’s shoulder, so there’s a psychological difference.
The feature barely cuts. Instead, it has us stew in how fucking uncomfortable the whole thing is. No cut means no break from the tension. And the camera being head on is similar to if we were looking in a mirror, with Fletcher screaming in our own ear. It increases the sense of immersion.
Me and my girlfriend went on color hunting in Berlin this weekend. We picked two random colors and had to make a 3x3 photo grid featuring that color. I got yellow, she got blue, here's the result.
Had lots of fun - highly recommend!
