NI is the only region of the UK without:
- A statutory Fuel Poverty target ❌
- A Fuel Poverty Strategy ❌
- Warm Homes Discount Scheme ❌
- A functioning Government ❌
And STILL waiting on the Energy Bill Support scheme (£600 per household).
There's coverage in today's press of alleged dispute within govt on whether it should spend £15m on an energy saving campaign; whether that's a good use of public money. To put it in context, the govt expects to spend £14m *an hour* subsidising energy bills this winter. (1/2)
@patrick_keatley @DaveToke@heatpolicyrich As soon as demand for this energy becomes regular and especially increase supply, this energy will not be free. To minimise renewable curtailments by supporting vulnerable consumers or by implementing wider DSR programmes can be a good strategy too
@agendani@UlsterUni @patrick_keatley The optimal level of energy storage and DSR will depend on the actions and ambitions on various sectors additionally to uptake of renewables, as well as wider economic development factors
Great to see the launch of Long Duration Energy Storage Council at COP26 today with the call for $3tn of investments. A much needed push for energy transition! https://t.co/kFO6XO7niM
Thank you for opportunity to present at #policyni Forum today presenting the approaches to meeting decarbonisation targets and the design of the ClimateChange Bill @Ulster_CST

Pat Austin highlights important issues about NI fuel poverty, excess winter deaths and balancing priorities in NI energy transition @policyNI @NEA_NIreland
@janrosenow@UKERCHQ I’m wondering if Northern Ireland will support similar targets and start utilising renewable energy for heating purposes more actively
I’m very excited to speak at the “Policy Forum for Northern Ireland” today highlighting barriers and opportunities for heat decarbonisation for NI. Interesting opinions on the subject from speakers and audience
OPEN ACCESS: Energy systems that reach net-zero GHG emissions will be radically different requiring a modelling analysis rethink, say @st_pye @bataille_chris@HannahEDaly @Oliver_Geden @finorgan @juliatomei1@IVorushylo@watsonjim2 & others
