Xiaomi just entered the AI model race with a 309B-parameter model that costs less than a fraction of a dollar per million tokens.
And there’s a Pro version too.
@Xiaomi just released the MiMo-V2.6 family, with two models for different AI workloads.
The one that caught my attention is MiMo-V2.6-Flash.
It has 309 billion parameters, with 15B active at a time, and can handle up to 1 million tokens in a single context.
If you’re not familiar with AI jargon, think of the context window as the amount of information an AI can keep in front of it and work with at once.
1 million tokens is a lot.
It can work with huge amounts of text and code, and it also supports images, audio, and video.
But the really interesting part?
The price.
MiMo-V2.6-Flash costs just $0.14 per 1 million input tokens and $0.28 per 1 million output tokens through Xiaomi’s API.
There’s also MiMo-V2.6-Pro, designed for users who need more capability.
The Pro costs $0.435 per 1M input tokens and $0.87 per 1M output tokens, while also offering a 1M token context window.
So Xiaomi is essentially offering two options:
Flash: cheaper and built for high-volume use.
Pro: more capable for harder tasks.
And another detail makes Flash especially interesting:
It’s MIT-licensed and open-weight.
That means developers can download the model, run it themselves and build products around it instead of relying entirely on a closed AI provider.
This is what makes releases like this interesting to me.
The AI race isn’t just about who can build the biggest or smartest model anymore.
It’s also about how much it costs to use, how much information it can handle, how accessible it is and whether developers can actually build on top of it.
MiMo-V2.6 is Xiaomi making a pretty serious statement in that race.
This is just warmed over 1980s/1990s liberal economics bullshit - the kind peddled by Milton Friedman, Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan.
Africans just regurgitate it, without thinking. Nobody in East Asia did. The Indians never did.
Chinese universities are now catching up with US universities, the Indian IIT system is still world-class.
Many of us do not know what time of the day it is. The term "Human Capital" must mean something.
A University Education is not a "luxury", it is an absolute necessity. The people who teach your child biology, physics, agricultural science, English Language, mathematics etc., in secondary school have to be university graduates.
If the Government of a developing nation cannot effectively subsidise quality public education - then that nation has no future in the 21st Century.
Always with the cosmetic solutions. A national tragedy occurred and the first response of a serving senator is to offer foreign scholarship to one of the survivors because he was dazzled by an interview.
What about the 37 that died? What about the other 30+ that survived? What about the other hundreds still depending on the mining trade to survive? What about justice? What about accountability?
What that boy and all the others need is basic respect as humans. They need basic amenities to live a conducive life. They don’t need some fancy abroad school. They just need the basics. Focus on that first.
We have all seen the people who have come out of shell , gtb , Access, interswitch and gone on to do big things . I haven’t seen anybody from his companies that has done something big or impactful outside . That’s one of his biggest red flag for me .
Nigerians acting all brand new with the Dangote salary news. When Pengassan called it out and tried to fight it, you ppl were defending him. Wait till you hear he employed GTs and sent them straight to the plant with no training and no PPE, they had to use their own money (before they even earned the meager salary) to buy PPE; and many other atrocities. All of which the union was trying to fight for and they lost. No company with a functional union can treat staff the way Dangote treats his staff and get away with it, but you ignorant mofos said the union wants to run down your saviour's refinery like they ran down NNPC. The same union that exists in Mobil, Total and Shell where y'all dream to work and they haven't run them down.
Nobody should angry me today please, if I see anymore "I can't believe yen yen", i fit deck you from my phone.
Scenes like this is why I always believe Nigerian politics isn't for me.
This is Desmond Idiot, a grown man in his 50s, on both knees for a fellow man who also bleeds blood & snores at night.
I'm 32 & I would rather eat fried granite & lava.
What the actual fuck is this.
