@Charmaine_D@atiqah_aryani@knowyourcents@tomselliott@donlemon Yes because only white people colonized... have you heard of Imperial Japan, Mongol Empire, Ottoman Empire, Arab Empires, Omani empire, Chinese Empires, Persian Empires, Aztec Empire, Incan Empire...? The Arabs took more African slaves than all the european empires combined.
@NationCymru Are they seriously going to ignore a petition with 35,000 signatures, for comparison in terms of population, thats equivalent to over 500,000 in england.
@dafyddfrancis Thats fine, i do too, but thats a change of subject. I was just explaining that he's repected because of his vision, brief achievement of an independent Welsh state, creation of a parliament, diplomacy, and capabilities as a soldier and commander, not because he was a prince.
@grthlwr @RepublicofWales He captured dozens of castles, defeated English army's in pitched battles, formed a parliament in the presence of international envoys, briefly created an independent Welsh state, avoided capture, and distributed raiding loot among the poor. He is romanticized and rightly so.
@_SomeDad@muttley911@LeanneCDP@Lowkey0nline Iraq was an illegal war, the government lied about Saddam having weapons of mass destruction so the soldiers actually thought they were there for a good cause... but the war in Afganistan was 100% justfied, as was the war against isis.
@DafiThom@CarrieAHarper@OwsWills@Wrexham_AFC I thought the same, but it actually is part of the new Welsh education curriculum. This the new history textbook for schools in Wales.
@ramonagusta@PhantomPower14 Its not a principality because the head of state is not a prince, and even if it was it wouldnt matter because the definition of a principality is a country that is ruled by a prince.
All of Wales was also united as a Kingdom under Gruffudd ap Llywelyn in the 11th century.
@grthlwr @RepublicofWales He stood up and risked his life for the cause of Welsh nationhood and restoring his peoples rights, he also outlined plans to build universities.
He may have lost in the end but his rebellion reinforced Welsh identity.
@roselyddon People invoke his visions & what he did and sacrificed for Welsh nationhood and identity.
Medieval people had no concept of democracy as they only ever knew monarchies. If he wasnt descended from the native Welsh princes, the Welsh people of that era wouldnt have supported him.
@grthlwr @RepublicofWales The 10s thousands of people who joined his rebellion out of their own free will. There's even records of Welsh students at Oxford & Welsh labourers living in england moving back to Wales to join his forces. He was well supported hence why he was never betrayed depsite his bounty.
@joeywreck Mongol empire, Imperial Japan, Ottoman Empire, Chinese Empires, Omani Empire, Arab Empires, Aztec Empire, Inca Empire, Persian Empire... in WW2 alone Imperial Japan enslaved more people than all the European Empires combined did during 400 years of the trans atlantic slave trade.
@joeywreck If "Capitalism is a universally failed system" then why is every developed first world country on the planet capitalist and built under the system of capitalism?
@ofnwchyrhenwaed Why not? The laws that Edward I and Henry IV imposed on the Welsh people made them second class citizens. You could also say the British empire was a parctipant in the politics of the time too, as there were empires from every continent of the world not just European and British.
@ChiveTalking@AledMorris18 @YDraigGoch10 @CarrieAHarper We do know that he was not killed as all sources record that he died while in hiding after the rebellion. We just dont know where he died or where he was buried.
@AledMorris18 @YDraigGoch10 @CarrieAHarper Owain Glyndwr was not killed, he died of natural causes while in hiding.
He ruled Wales for several years during which he formed a Welsh Parliament, and was internationally and domestically recognized as the Prince of Wales.
