I am concerned by reports of violence against Vietnamese fishermen in the South China Sea (SCS). Such actions put civilians’ safety at risk & threaten stability. The UK calls for adherence to international law, in particular UNCLOS, to ensure peace, stability & safety in the SCS.
The UK stands in solidarity with the people of Vietnam in dealing with the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi. This £1m (~$1.3m) assistance will be used to support families and communities affected by the storm to recover 🇬🇧🤝🇻🇳
The UK government has announced £1 million of humanitarian assistance to Viet Nam to support the initial phase of the response to the impact of Typhoon Yagi.
The vital assistance will be allocated to humanitarian partners and will reach individuals directly through providing emergency supplies, cash assistance and critical services, such as health, water and sanitation.
UK Minister for Development, Anneliese Dodds said:
"The UK government stands beside the people affected by the devastating impact of Typhoon Yagi in Viet Nam.
We have coordinated closely with the Vietnamese government and humanitarian partners to identify where our support can have greatest impact."
The UK is at the forefront of climate cooperation with Viet Nam as co-leaders of the Just Energy Transition Partnership. In addition to supporting the initial phase of the typhoon response, this funding will help to boost Viet Nam's ongoing resilience to climate change.
