@pavyg Old Pavvy’s back. I liked your last comment, noting @ArthurFery02’s family’s wealth but saying hard work is key. He can’t help being the son of a rich man and his easiest option would have been indolence. People gifted opportunity typically have the least incentive to seize it.

@AllThatRacket24@pavyg@Wimbledon@the_LTA You obviously didn’t see Oliver Tarvet then. Drawn against a top 30 player, showed heart and some amazing play and could have won. Has just finished college in US and turned pro.
@pavyg@Wimbledon@the_LTA It’s a stupid comparison. There was 1 Brit in the top 250 in 2010. There are 13 now. More Brits in the tournament means more are going to lose. Most of these guys are also youngsters at the start of their careers, some having just finished US College tennis.
@pavyg@YouTube There are 13 UK players inside top 250 compared with 1 (Murray) in 2010 who hadn’t even trained in UK. Three are now in the last 64. Many of the others are at start of their careers or have recently finished US college. If Draper hadn’t been injured we might even have a top 10.
@LouiseMensch She plays tennis better than almost every woman on the planet. You could fit the people better than her into a bus. And she’s one of only 67 women in history to have won the US Open. If that’s not being able to cut it, where does it leave the rest of us?

@pavyg@rolandgarros Numerous Ukrainian players don’t shake hands with Russians and I find it hard to believe that if you were Ukrainian you would be any different.
@iguardans Yeah, poor etiquette, like eating your starter with the steak knife. Or maybe tennis should be about variety and surprise rather than just hitting the shot your opponent expects.
