Joking aside, I am genuinely interested in your opinion now.

I think our common ground is that I agree 2050 is fairly arbitrary. It’s a nice round number is more or less it’s only significance.

Where I’m sure we don’t agree is that I think the net zero goal should be much sooner because of when we may cross planetary boundaries.

To me the two examples you give are both short term, Solar Cycles fluctuate but 25 started in 2019 and the eruption in 2022 (I’m sure they did/do have a slight impact on temperature) yet we can track a steady global temperature rise since the beginning of the 1900s. So how do you reconcile that? Again genuinely interested.

While I agree that the narrative is almost exclusively put on human activity, I think this is for good reason. The natural cycles and activity of the sun, and earth are not things we can control. The goal is to reduce ‘human induced climate change’ starting during the Industrial Revolution - the thing we can control and show is having an impact on atmospheric carbon concentrations.

So I don’t agree that the focus should be on natural activity because we’ve demonstrated that carbon comes from human activity, it’s impacting temperatures, and it’s within our control to change it.
