Totally agree with most things you’ve said. But to say João Neves didn’t turn up is not accurate in my view. He worked his tail off with and without the ball in every minute he played. Irreplaceable given the nonexistent midfield subs we had with the exception of Bernardo. We lost because of a unqualified coach and a ref who gave every soft foul imaginable including the nothing call he gave right before the goal.

Messi is arguably the best (with Maradona). Theres a difference from being the best and the greatest. Messi spent his prime years 28-36 failing spectacularly in the worlds most difficult and best competition. Ronaldo was a hair shy of winning 5 straight champions leagues during that time. Ronaldo is the greatest. Full stop.

You’re a Scot so I’ll be respectful. The core argument to my point is greatness not who is better at football. It’s one thing to be better at something than everyone else, it’s another be great and execute, perform and deliver consistently in the most critical moments. As only one example Messi blew 3 goal leads to Liverpool and Roma in CL semi finals. In a team built for him with several hundreds of millions of euros.
