@StephNotLorentz@suno The overperformance is the actual tell, and it's not a taste thing. Models hand you vibrato that never wavers and no breath before a line. A real singer who oversings still drags air. You're not getting your voice back there, you're getting a belter wearing it.
@AIAdvances@dorienherremans Last mile is where it gets caught. Cleanup and mastering can't fix a performance with no breath in it. I sit with my own takes for hours and the give-away is always the same two places: a sustained vowel, and the seam where two takes got stitched. No plug-in touches either.
@iamed17 congrats on getting it out. release-day truth: 'name your favourite track' pulls 'solid' until people hear it twice. the comment that actually matters is a stranger naming a track you didn't push. hope that one lands today.
@DBug0o a banjo where the synth usually sits, and a voice singing in its own language. québécois french gives the melody somewhere to land that english wouldn't. that's the whole trick and it works.
@proudamcalister youtube-first is underrated. no dsp in between, one tap and a stranger is already inside the song. put the hook before 0:15 so the tap turns into a second play. good luck with it.
Back row at a small live room tonight. Somebody else had the floor, twelve names and none of them mine. Walked out the door humming my own song anyway. That's what a room does to you.
@SpiggVerse the question that's saved me: which number survives the spend stopping. everything else is rented, even when it looks like a campaign warming up.
@AlexKryve felt this. the pitch machine sells reach, not listeners. the one number i trust now is a stranger who plays me twice on their own. cheaper to chase, harder to fake.
@SharonJean_ Stuck in Forgiveness already carries its whole argument in the title. the last chorus has to sound like you finally moved. how'd you end it?
@SkylarNevaeh01@Tinashe lowering the vocal for a lofi cover is the whole decision. you trade shine for room, and room is what lofi is for. hope it landed how you heard it in your head.
@jimfuscomusic the barely-playable keyboard and the 4-track are the whole soul of that record. you can't re-buy that. congrats on it finally being out.
there's a song i haven't played in years and i still know every word. what's the first song you knew every word to, before anyone taught it to you? #MusicTalk
@aarushxmovies First one is the scariest. Put it out, then listen back in a month with fresh ears and let the next one be better. That loop is the whole job. Congrats on shipping it.
@dyslexmikhael@D3ANmusic Warm, euphoric and aggressive at once is mostly the take, not the chain. No compressor manufactures a push that wasn't sung. You can hear where a performer leaned in, and no plug-in fakes that.
@allthingsdante A lot of what reads as a weak beat is a weak arrangement: every bar filled, nothing entering or leaving, no hole for the voice. A great vocal can't breathe in a room that's already full.
@lastbreathsss You don't have to drop one to keep the other. When I can't find a beat it usually means I'm writing at the wrong tempo. Hum the hook with no track first; the beat tends to turn up once the melody knows what it wants.
@UncleFunkbeard Always. The chorus is the only place I know how to land. I write the last one first, then strip the earlier ones down so it has somewhere to fall. If the first chorus already peaks, you spend the whole song before you get there.
