@DrTregoning Room temperature isn't what you think it is. The French termed it; it meant bottles being stored in a house that was nowhere near a heat source. The houses were cold; so room temperature meant that the wine was already chilled.
This is somewhere between deeply irresponsible and a lie.
HMRC will be able to "seize money" from people who owe tax, aren't disputing it, but just fail to pay. That's people who cause the rest of us to pay more tax.
There have been no small boats crossing for the last eleven days. I wonder why the main stream media are not reporting this? Perhaps @BBCNews@itvnews@Channel4News@GBNEWS could let us know? Maybe it doesn't fit their agenda?
@RobNoLastName Teachers pay tax and national insurance. They pay their own wages. Teaching is a post-graduate profession. Do you want them to be badly paid?
@asentance@LizWebsterSBF A hole in public finances caused by a deliberate recession to crowd out inflation once and for all. Sir Robin Pemberton called it a wholly home-grown recession. As for inflation being squeezed out - that went well. Memory failing you, Andrew?
@JohnRentoul@_HannahRitchie You could change the rules on CGT. Presently you only pay CGT on an asset if you sell it. Change the tax system. Don't allow billionaires to borrow against an asset instead of selling it to raise funds. Make them pay exit taxes. There are all sorts of ways a serious gov't can.
@PaddyBriggs@OliverKamm Which, as I recall, was spent on unemployment benefit due to Thatcher's insistence that inflation needed to be squeezed out of the economy once and for all. That went well.
