Basalt, the rock that makes up most lava tubes, is fine grained because it cools quickly at the surface. That fast cooling is also part of why lava tubes hold their shape as stable, walkable tunnels instead of collapsing.

Most thrillers run about 20% too long. A tight 300 pages beats a bloated 450 almost every time.
