📰 A new paper from Forest Research’s Dr Andrew Leslie and @teagasc’s Dr Ian Short in the @royal_forestry Quarterly Journal of Forestry, reviews the published literature on the benefits of mixed broadleaf and mixed conifer and broadleaf stands.
It concludes that mixed stands can increase yield, improve timber quality and increase resilience to climate related drought, pests and diseases, acting as an ‘insurance policy’ for UK woodland. 🌳🌲

Photos Silvopasture planted in 1991 on the Gibson Family Farm in Antrim, absolutely thriving! 🌳🐑 I visited this sheep and suckler (Saler) farm first in 1998 and even then the Gibsons recognised agroforestry as a viable economic and environmental option for their marginal land.
