@DaveRowland2509@CraigNelsonBBC@SueCrawley1 I would urge you to listen to the BBC Sounds series I have mentioned above. I'm sure Craig is a good journalist but the story in his article is debunked as romantic story telling.

@DrHelenFry Seem to recall The Rest is History podcast doing a piece on Whitehall statues (themed as keep or cancel)… I don’t think post war he came out too good, supporting apartheid and a relationship with a young girl and some other stuff
@historical_kate@I_W_M Very interesting documentary but doesn't really explain why locals became involved. Was it a general hatred of Jews or was there anything in revenge for some alleged Jewish collaboration with the previous occupier, the Russian NKVD (the communists)?
