#PHOTONEWS | The Nigeria Police Force – Special Protection Unit (SPU) held a strategic meeting with the SPU Management Team and Commanding Officers of all 31 Bases at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Thursday, 7th May 2026. The meeting, which was presided over by AIG Olufemi Haruna, psc(+), formed part of efforts to align operational activities with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM.

The session focused on issues of discipline, professionalism, operational readiness, and strict adherence to standard operating procedures, particularly in preparation for upcoming election security responsibilities. Discussions also centered on the Federal Government’s directive on the withdrawal of police personnel attached to unauthorized VIP duties, as well as the need for regular training, comprehensive arms audits, and accountability in personnel deployment.

The meeting further highlighted ongoing plans for the establishment of a dedicated SPU Headquarters and Training School aimed at strengthening the operational and tactical capacity of the Unit. Commanding Officers were equally urged to reinforce supervision, prioritize personnel welfare, and ensure compliance with extant regulations, especially in light of recent firearm-related incidents.
