I once had a broker tell me - flooding happens. But it's just 10 to 15 days of inconvenience in a year and eventually infra would improve. But the discount is steep and I should invest.

I never did. I rented there. I couldn't accept the destruction we were causing to the ecosystem. Eventually moved out.

I never brought. But 1000's did.

Precisely, any flyover is a band-aid to circumvent 2 things.

1. Zero city planning. Areas with no inter-connectivity. Many dead end streets and interior streets totally encroached, pushing all traffic to main arterial roads.
2. Encroachments in the main road - which would exist because some councillor has been paid off.

Look at streets of Seattle vs Velachery.

Flyover because city is like a village with dead-end roads. Like it's a closed colony.

When there is no interconnectivity, flyovers are the only solution.

@UpdatesChennai The stench from the garbage in Pallikarani comes till ECR. If you are in ECR - near Kottivakkam, Pallavakkam, Thiruvanmiyur, Tharamani. You can feel the stench.

Access controlled highways is for faster, safer movement between cities. I don't have to worry about cows, human kids running in front of me (this happened to me in Andhra).

Unfortunately, access controlled roads are becoming a nightmare due to these squids 🐙. Classic example is ORR in Hyderabad. Beautiful road with 120 kph speed limit and 4 wheeler only. But accidents have increased so much that Hyderabad had to put out an advisory warning against speeding.(which defeats the purpose of an access controlled road).

Speeding isn't an issue - we have seen that with Auto bahn. But in India, where human beings have the civic sense equivalent to that of a cow - it doesn't work.

Squids shift between lanes without signalling at 200 kph. It's a nightmare. What's supposed to be safer & faster becomes riskier for no fault of the ones who drive safely

As long as people know - they can bribe a local councillor or a DMK/ADMK functionary, they know they can encroach all they want.

@EcrPSaravanann is a menace. Poster menace has become far worse in areas around ECR near Kottivakkam, Palavakkam, Neelankarai & Thiruvanmiyur.

Strange that - right where the CM resides is where sticking posters has increased significantly.

Literally no difference between DMK & TVK in this one and right in the locality where CM resides too..

Ive been seeing this bus-stand since I was a kid. Since 1998, till now, nothing about it has changed.

There is no footpath & there has never been, in this entire stretch from Kakkan bridge till maduvankarai.

The road from Kakkan bridge till this bus stop has shrunk a lot due to encroachments though.

Selling public streets and temple lands at 24k a month that does not even go to the govt's treasury but to their private pockets.

On top of this @TRBRajaa used to send his IT cell digital rowdys to silence anyone questioning the need for footpaths and removing illegal encroachments, because they were earning 2 lakhs a month, just from 8 vendors in a single street, now do the maths for all streets in ever city in TN.
