@HALAJ00NG@soulslaving And it also changes Troy. He (wrongly) thought it was fine BECAUSE he assumed Shane and Ilya were straight. Which AGAIN doesn't make it okay, but his intention was not to out anyone or to make anyone suspect their queerness. Which is what a lot of people say he wanted to do.
@HALAJ00NG@soulslaving I said it wasn't ok! How many times do I need to put up a disclaimer? It matters because people keep saying Shane was Troy's victim- that Troy deliberately wanted to out him as gay.
It doesn't make it okay, but it does change the relationship between these two characters in canon
@HALAJ00NG@soulslaving Because people use this as "proof" that Troy intentionally targeted Shane, when he could've made that joke about any other two random players that were on the news.
I don't try to argue it wasn't wrong because it was, I argue that it wasn't because it was specifically Shane.
@Jo0123456789987@soulslaving It is not okay, but it is the bread and butter of hockey culture. No one would take the joke seriously because homophobic jokes about players are a dime a dozen.
Which is wrong btw, because somehow I have to keep repeating that, but that's the reality in the books.
I would like to present this downtime as an opportunity for everyone to read the original source material and learn about characters like Ryan, Fabian, Troy, and Harris. And maybe even learn a little more about Shane and Ilya. ☺️
"No governess! How was that possible? Five daughters brought up at home without a governess! I have never heard of such a thing." - Lady Catherine (P&P, Ch. 29)
Picky regency point: Elizabeth could not become a governess even if she wanted to because she did not have one. It was one of the two qualifications for the position: being born in the upper class and having had a governess so that you could pass that information to your pupil.
