On another note, seeing almost all of Destiny 2 Twitter come together and grieve for a game we spent over a decade playing really warms my heart. I really hope this shows that Destiny 3 would be well received.

The game had clearly reached the end of its life, and I hope they get the green light for Destiny 3 eventually.

But I still, without a doubt, loved playing destiny 2. I have so many good memories of my time playing.

No. Marathon did not kill destiny. There are many more impactful reasons than that. While marathon may have played a tiny part in the downfall of d2, it was the constant content vaulting, a lack of community understanding, and frankly repetitive and stale content that did it.

They lost the community's trust with how they handled content later on (The Portal, strike nerfs, bad DLC). The game got stale, boring and hollow and the playercount reflected that.

The only thing I'll grant the "marathon killed destiny" crowd is that they delayed DLC for it.
