ICRISAT Niger welcomed the @FAO Representative in Niger for a visit to its research facilities. The delegation toured ICRISAT's laboratories and technology demonstration sites, and interacted with technical staff to learn about the institute's key research and development initiatives in Niger.
The visit provided an opportunity to explore avenues for strengthening the partnership between ICRISAT and FAO. Discussions focused on identifying areas of collaboration to support the Government of Niger's food security and agricultural development priorities, while advancing joint initiatives and developing resource mobilization proposals for greater impact.

A new chapter in agricultural cooperation was marked in Egypt as Dr Himanshu Pathak (@HPathakOfficial), Director General of ICRISAT, and Prof. Dr. Adel Abdel Azim, President of the Agricultural Research Center, #Egypt, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration on climate-resilient, water-secure, and technology-enabled agriculture.
The partnership will focus on high-impact areas that are critical for sustainable agricultural transformation:

· Crop diversification and dryland agriculture innovations

In his session on "Climate-Resilient Dryland Agriculture: From Risks to Rewards," he highlighted the need to transform dryland agriculture through climate-smart innovations, resilient farming systems, and science-led partnerships that enhance productivity while safeguarding natural resources.

In a recent study, the ICRISAT, together with collaborators from the @LeibnizIPK, Germany, and the University of Queensland, Australia (@UQ_News), proposes a new framework that could transform crop breeding by integrating biology-driven pangenetics with artificial intelligence (AI)-powered prediction models.

ICRISAT and the Department of @mission_shakti , Government of Odisha, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, to implement the project "Strengthening Women Producer Groups for Agro-enterprises, Yield Enhancement and Market-led Livelihoods (Swayam Shakti)."
The initiative aims to empower women producer groups by promoting science-based, climate-resilient agricultural technologies, including community-scale biochar production, vegetable grafting, value addition, entrepreneurship, and market linkages.
The MoU was exchanged between Dr. Monica Priyadarshini IAS, State Mission Director-cum-CEO, Odisha Livelihoods Mission (OLM), Department of Mission Shakti, and Dr. Stanford Blade, Director General – Research & Innovation, ICRISAT.
The ceremony was presided over by Ms. Mansi Nimbhal, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Department of Mission Shakti, Government of Odisha. Dr. Gajanan Sawargaonkar, Principal Scientist, ICRISAT, and Principal Investigator of the Swayam Shakti project, along with senior officials from ICRISAT and the Department of Mission Shakti, were also present.
Together, this partnership marks an important step towards strengthening women-led agri-enterprises, promoting sustainable farming practices, and creating resilient, market-driven livelihood opportunities across #Odisha.

Released the State-Level El Niño Contingency Plan–2026 (Kharif) to help Telangana farmers scientifically manage prolonged dry conditions and rainfall uncertainty.
Developed with inputs from ICRISAT, IIMR, IIOR, CRIDA, IMD and State departments, the plan provides district- and mandal-level weather guidance, crop advisories for 18 major crops, alternative low-water crops, seed availability, groundwater status and reservoir-wise irrigation data.
District Collectors and field officials have been directed to take the plan to every village, provide timely advisories and prioritise the protection of standing crops. Farmers dependent on borewells are advised to avoid water-intensive paddy and consider millets, horticulture and vegetable crops suited to local conditions.
