What's harder:
Finding a business idea
or
Finding a good name for the business?
Because some of you spend 3 weeks naming a company that hasn't made โฆ1 yet. ๐ญ
Not every successful business invented something new.
Sometimes they simply took something that already existed and made it:
Faster.
Cheaper.
Easier.
More convenient.
More accessible.
Does innovation actually require originality?
You have the idea.
But then come the questions:
Who do I need?
What will it cost?
Where do I source it?
How do I structure it?
How do I brand it?
How do I actually make it happen?
That's where the interesting work begins.
Hot take:
Not every business needs a physical office.
Not every business needs 20 employees.
Not every business needs millions in funding.
Sometimes you just need a good offer and a system that works.
Not every successful business invented something new.
Sometimes they simply took something that already existed and made it:
Faster.
Cheaper.
Easier.
More convenient.
More accessible.
A business can have 100,000 followers and still have a terrible business.
A business can have 1,000 followers and be doing extremely well.
What metric do you actually use to judge whether a business is succeeding?
AI can help you:
Write faster.
Design faster.
Research faster.
Code faster.
Create faster.
But it can't decide what is actually worth building for you.
That's still the hard part.
@miracleadishi I wish someone told people this before they spend months collecting certificates. At some point you have to leave โI'm learningโ and figure out โwho is actually paying me for this?โ
@GloriousGod01 The fact that he asked for the money without telling you what it was for makes the whole thing even sweeter. He probably knew you would have refused to let him spend that much on you if you knew ๐
@TosinOlugbenga I think people underestimate how different the conversation looks when the money being burned is your own. Itโs easy to say โshut it downโ from the outside when youโre not the one deciding between protecting your capital and protecting the people whose salaries depend on you.
@winexviv Iโm curious how much of that growth came from people who genuinely needed the banking relationship versus people opening an account simply because it was connected to the education initiative. That distinction would make the impact story even more interesting.
@instablog9ja Thereโs a real distinction between building industries that Africa previously depended on importing and becoming so dominant that competition becomes difficult. Both conversations can exist at the same time, and I think thatโs the part worth debating.
@TechnicalBben This could become much bigger than โhelping businesses get visibility.โ If she documents enough of these businesses, sheโll eventually have a front-row view of the exact digital problems small businesses keep running into. That data alone could be valuable.
@AskMichaelTaiwo Somewhere right now, theyโre probably just trying to get the damn thing to work while the rest of us are busy looking for the next big startup ๐
@NKaliisa That โgo study what you sellโ probably felt harsh at the time ๐ but looking at the outcome 36 months later, I can see why that conversation mattered. Sometimes the feedback you really don't want to hear is the one that exposes the gap
@gaganbiyani I actually like the idea of students spending most of their time building instead of trying to remember enough information to pass a test. The interesting question is whether this model can teach students how to think, not just how to build.
@TosinOlugbenga I agree with the pattern, but I don't think seeing similar startups fail automatically means the next one will fail too. Sometimes the difference is in the execution, timing or who theyโre actually building for.
