It took me 3 years to get a job after my Virtual Assistant certificate.
Yes. 3 whole years.
There's nothing I didn't do. I showed up online. I posted. I applied. I prayed. I changed my niche nine times. I kept getting more confused.
At some point I thought maybe this space just wasn't for me. Because everyone around me was celebrating, landing jobs, moving. And here I was.
Three years later, I'm an EdTech/SaaS Customer Success Manager, Community Manager, Author of The Virtual Assistant Blueprint, and Public Speaker.
I've helped teams cut churn and grow retention, led communities of 1,000+ members from 10+ countries, spoken at 6 events and mentored 50+ VAs.
If I started afresh today, here's exactly what I'd do differently in less than a month:
▪️I will choose a VA niche based on who I actually am, not what's trending.
▪️I will find my why and build my brand story around it.
▪️I will position myself clearly online.
▪️I will create content that attracts my potential clients.
▪️I will not use only one form of job search.
▪️I will build proof before clients.

Dear Algorithm,
Take me to the VA who just finished a course and doesn't know what to do with the certificate.
Take me to the one who's applied to more jobs this month than he/she can count, and heard nothing back from any of them.
Take me to the one who's been "showing up online" for weeks, posting, engaging, doing everything he/she was told to do, and still isn't getting picked.
Take me to the one who took a second course, then a third, hoping the next one would finally be the one that made sense and instead just got more confused.
Take me to the one quietly wondering if this space was even meant for her, watching everyone else celebrate while she refreshes her notifications one more time.
Take me to the one who's stuck between "I'm certified" and "I'm actually hired," because that gap is the whole reason I'm doing this.
I spent almost three years in that exact gap.
I know what it costs, the confidence it eats, the courses you keep buying hoping one of them fixes it, the nights you ask yourself what's wrong with you when nothing's actually wrong with you at all.
So Algorithm, do your one job today. Put this in front of him/her.
