One year today.
Today, we went back to where Agatha rests to remember her and honour the life we shared.
A whole year has passed, but there are still moments when her absence feels so fresh.
I still miss her, and I still wish we had more time together. 🕊️
If countries cannot measure lead exposure properly, they cannot manage it effectively.
Ending lead poisoning will require more than awareness. It will require reliable laboratories, trained analysts, quality systems, enforcement, and sustained investment.
#leadpoisoning
Lead poisoning is not just a health issue. It is a systems issue.
One thing that stood out from the UNGA81 Lead Poisoning Summit was the clear call for stronger measurement, laboratory capacity, funding, and national ownership.
Abdallah Fadil of the Partnership for a Lead-Free Future made an important point about laboratory infrastructure being one of the most critical but often overlooked gaps.
And that is where the conversation must go next.
Off to Lagos this week for an official trip.
Not every public health assignment looks dramatic from the outside.
This week’s focus is around quality assurance support for laboratory testing of cosmetic products for lead contamination.
Lagos work week, let’s go. 🙂👍
When you walk into a hospital or healthcare facility, you’re not simply walking in to receive treatment
You’re walking in trusting someone with your health and sometimes, your life

Happy New Week, Fam!
One thing my work in labs and public health keeps reminding me is that meaningful improvement rarely happens overnight.
It comes from paying attention to the details, fixing what needs fixing, and consistently doing the work.
Have a great week ahead.

But the chain starts long before the final result.
Sample → Method → QC → Data → Action.
Every link matters. Laboratory professionals aren't just producing numbers. We're helping produce the evidence behind public-health decisions.
You can't manage what you can't measure.
Lead poisoning prevention depends on credible data.
That data helps us identify sources, understand exposure, target interventions and measure whether they work.

You also need reliable maintenance and supplies.
You need records that can be checked.
You need proper data review.
And you need reports that are honest about what the result can and cannot tell you.
What do you see as the weakest link most often?
A laboratory can have AAS, ICP-MS, ICP-OES or XRF equipment and still produce results you cannot confidently act on.
Because equipment is not the same as capacity.
Here’s what I mean.
A thread 👇
You need methods that actually fit the sample and the decision being made.
You need competent people who can demonstrate that they can do the work properly.
And you need calibration, reference materials and routine quality control.
@AyvoLife I agree with you @AyvoLife . As I always say, first step towards a more healthier community is awareness through simplified and culturally relevant information that breaks these myths while expanding access to the underserved.
